A Simulation Study of the Evolution of Aging
نویسندگان
چکیده
The wide disparity in longevity observed across species indicates that aging is a species characteristic. However, the obvious fitness costs of aging on individual reproduction would cause strong selection pressure against it. In this paper we have developed an adaptive hypothesis of aging for the sake of group diversity. Our hypothesis relies on a group selection mechanism, which we argue supervenes on kin selection; that is, group selection is strongly tied to what we already know about inclusive fitness theory. We designed and experimented with an ALife simulation environment of competing groups of co-evolving hosts and diseases to test our diversity hypothesis.

Transient Nonlinear Vibration of Randomly Excited Cylindrical Shallow Panels in Non Aging Viscous Medium
In this paper, the nonlinear transient vibration of a cylindrical shallow panel under lateral white noise excitation is studied. The panel is in contact with a non aging viscoelastic medium. Since the external load is a time varying random wide band process, deterministic and conventional approaches cannot be used. Instead, the evolution of the probability density function of the response is in...
متن کاملEffect of aging temperature on structural evolution of HP-Nb heat resistant steel
In this study, the changes in microstructure of HP-Nb cast heat resistant steel after 8 years of service at high temperatures were investigated. Study of microstructure using optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) showed that the microstructure of this steel in as-cast condition includes an austenitic matrix, and that...
متن کاملModifications of Internal Molecular Structures of Asphalt Components Due to Physical Aging
The internal structure of a molecule can be presented in terms of intra-molecular (i.e., inter atomic)and inter-molecular energies such as van der Waals, bond and bending, torsion, and inversion energy. In this study, changes in molecular energies of individual asphalt components are evaluated as afunction of physical aging factors. The factors for physical aging such as temperature and pressure...
متن کاملFinite element simulation of microstructure evolution during friction stir welding of automotive aluminum parts
7000 series Aluminum alloys are widely used in the automotive industries for structural lightweight components due to their exceptional high strength to weight ratio. However, this class of aluminum alloy is difficult to join by conventional fusion welding techniques so Friction stir welding (FSW) widely is used for welding this alloys. The process has been demonstrated to be effective and is c...

An experimental method to follow the evolution of the precipitation phenomena in the metal-matrix composites using the thermoelectric power measurements is described. It is shown that one can follow the kinetics of the precipitation during aging. The influence of the reinforcement on the precipitation kinetics is studied in case of an aluminum 6061- SiC, composite (where SiC, represents SiC par...
